Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery, Under very hot sunny skies, 7 of us gathered for our last workday of 2023. We spent our time preparing Spring Hill for winter by tending to the paths and removing debris. We've left the cemetery in great shape to face the coming storms. Two Titus-related visitors came by the cemetery while we were working. There are quite a few of their family markers in the cemetery. Apparently these women had tried to find the cemetery on a couple of previous occasions, without success. And today they found it! It is always special to connect with descendants of Spring Hill's inmates. I am so happy they were able to discover us on a day when we had a clean up, and I could point them to the appropriate section of markers. Spring Hill's neighbor to the east, Jim, also came by. He mentioned how special the cemetery was to many in the community. In addition to those who joined us today, many thanks to the volunteers who have given their time and labor to restoring and maintaining Spring Hill over the last 17 years; to Regional Parks' staff who have supported the cemetery with valuable logistical and financial support; and to all the "Friends" who have shared their research and stories of the cemetery's inhabitants, bringing them to life. The restoration and maintenance of the cemetery is an ongoing project. We continue to find hidden markers and to restore them to their original positions. Even with all we have done and restored, there is still more to find, and more stories to tell. I will send out an email in January setting up our next workday. Workdays will start up again late February 2024. Please come and join us! Best Regards, Sue
