Spring Hill Cemetery Work Days

Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,

I am delighted to report that the rebuilt Zilhart enclosure is back where it belongs, gracing Spring Hill Cemetery! Dick and Sally Giberti did a remarkable job in rebuilding it. They used original materials where possible, and were helped in their task by the generous donation of wood and special milling contributed by Sturgeon's Mill. It is hard to express just how big a difference having our enclosure back in place makes on the whole atmosphere of the cemetery. I hope many of you will get a chance to go by and admire the Giberti's efforts.

10 sturdy volunteers aided by Glen and Sal from Regional Parks gathered on Friday at the cemetery. Our main goal Friday (and will be again August 8) was to prepare as best we could for the Ground Penetrating Radar Survey that will take place late August or September. To that end, Regional Parks was chain sawing the huge tree trunks left over from the SOD tree servicing. Volunteers were hauling off the sawed pieces, raking and removing debris from areas we hope to have scanned, and we even got in a bit more metal detecting. Our dump truck was filled by noon.

Luckily, the weather was excellent for us. The heat wave had passed, and we worked to cool, gentle breezes. Unfortunately we disturbed a couple of yellow jacket nests in the far SE and NW corners of the cemetery. Glen has promised to take care of them before our next work day.

Speaking of the next work day, it is going to be on August 8th. Please come and join us, if you possibly can. The more ground we can prepare before the GPR survey, the more benefit we will get have from Norcal Geophysical's scan.

... My thanks to you all for joining with me in bringing back dignity to Spring Hill Cemetery.
