Spring Hill Cemetery Work Days

by Susan Zeni

16 November 2012

Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,

Although the weather forecast called for heavy rain on Friday, 11 of us braved the forecast and ventured to the cemetery clad in rain gear. We were rewarded by nearly dry conditions! We worked quickly clearing the paths and dragging away fallen debris, fearing an imminent downpour. By 11 am Spring Hill was back to its normal serene state, and ready for winter.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Richard Parmeter back to the work crew -- he makes the trek every year or two from Kansas City, MO. Thanks for coming, Richard, and for bringing out more of the Parmeter clan. And many thanks to Evelyn, who once again invited the volunteers to her home for a feast of soup, bread and cheese.

Spring Hill is in very good shape.  The stones are all repaired and upright, the paths well defined, and the invasive plants (acacia, broom, ivy, and berry bushes) well controlled.  Going forward the plan is to cut down on workdays - perhaps scheduling them every other month.  I will be working with Regional Parks on next year's work dates, and will update you all once they are finalized.  Friday's work crew discussed a starting date of Friday, February 22nd 2013, but this has not yet been brought before Regional Parks for approval.

Wishing you all the very best of holiday seasons.

Best Regards,

Sue
