Dear
Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,
Our main focus was on clearing the paths. The county had provided a
perfect LARGE dump truck for us, that we easily filled with collected
debris. Besides maintaining our paths, we also tamed the invasive wild
grasses and blackberry bushes. Last year's wet winter led to an explosion
of spring weeds. As you can see in the third picture, we left the cemetery
in its preferred manicured and serene state.
I do have one sad note to pass on. Our long time volunteer and supporter,
and my next door neighbor, Kirston Koths, passed away this morning, June 8th. He was
a regular at our work days up until about 5 years ago when his battle with
pancreatic cancer started. I have attached a picture of him planting a
heritage rose from his garden in 2016. He planted a few of them at
Spring Hill, and 3 of them are still doing well. He selected this rose for
its hardiness and drought resistance. The final picture is of that same
rose bush planted in 2016 blooming at this year's April workday.
Please mark your calendars for August 2nd, our next Spring Hill workday,
and come and join us!
Best Regards,
Sue
