A short history of Fakes Cemetery can be found in Cemetery Records of Woodruff County, Arkansas, by Adelia C. Kittrell and Curtis A. Houston, Vol II (reprinted by The Woodruff Country Historical Society, 1992), p. 187:

This was at first a small burial plot which was started about 1868 or before. It was located either behind or nearby a home later removed.

In 1909 a plat was made and broken up into lots and recorded at the court house in Augusta. These lots were offered for sale to people who wanted them. This was probably planned a year or two before the plat was surveyed, as we notice a marker is located in this plat with a death date of 1908. It is located on an old road following high ground from DeView through what was Jenny Colony about half a mile south, and leading to the north towards Beedeville. This road was one of the original roads cut out through the woods, most traveled when the earlier settlers located in the community...

Often confused with Fakes Chapel Cemetery, this cemetery is presently the only active cemetery for McCrory, with the other cemeteries in the area being "full."

Fakes Cemetery is also the final resting place of Dr. G. B. Fakes, a significant property and business owner in the early days of Woodruff County. A history of the Fakes family is outlined in the article, "Dr. and Mrs. Gideon Bransford Fakes," by Mrs. Turner Fakes, Arkansas Gazette, October 5, 1941, reprinted in Rivers and Roads and Points in Between, Vol. III, No. 4 (Fall, 1975), pp. 2-5.
