16. JOHN KOONTZ son of 4, Jacob Koontz and Barbara Beaver m. his 1at cousin Anna Mauk sic (Mauck) on 8 Oct. 1810. Anna was the dau. of Abraham Mauck and Mary Beaver and Mary was a sis. of Barbara Beaver the wife of John's father, Jacob. John was b. 1785/86. (Jacob shown with two tithables in 1802 after he was shown with one for a couple of years. 1802 minus 16, the tithable age, equals 1786.) Ref. 102, p. 3 states John was b. in 1785.

John d. in his early 30's after being blind abt. 3 yrs. His death in 1817 is indicated by his inventory recorded in Shenandoah Co. on 11 Sept. 1817. (Shenandoah Co., W. B. "K", p. 383) John was bur. on the little Hawksbill and adjoining the lands of David Kauffman and John Reedy. (Ref. 204 Book "C" , p. 359) The account of sales of his inventory shows Jacob and his younger bro. Joseph Koontz purchased most of his estate. This John is thought to be the John Koontz who was baptized 10 June 1815 at the Mill Creek Church.

The 1810 census shows John living with his parents Jacob and Barbara. The 1820 census indicates that after John's death in 1817 Anna and family lived with Jacob her father-in-law for som time. The 1830 census for Shenandoah Co. p. 122 shows Anna age 40 to 50 with 2 female ch. 15-20, 1 female child 10-15 and 1 male child 5-10, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Nancy and Noah who recieved 128 3/4 A. of land in what was then Shenandoah Co. on 12 May 1820.
