Obituary from The Sonoma Democrat (Vol. XXI, #51), 12 Oct 1878, p. 5:
  ---------<oOo>----------
DEATH OF A PIONEER LADY. --The many friends of Mrs. J. M. Hudspeth will learn with sorrow of the sudden death of that lady, which occurred after a bried illness at her residence, in Analy township on Saturday last. Mrs. Hudspeth was a native of England and 57 years of age. She had resided in this county since her marriage to Mr. Hudspeth in 1854. She was a devoted wife and her kind heart and generous hospitality had endeared her to a large circle of friends. She was in apparent good health until two weeks ago, when she was attacked by pneumonia from which she had partially recovered and a relapse resulted in death. Her remains incased in a metalic casket where interred in the Sebastopol cemetery on Monday, the Rev. T. W. Brotherton, of Healdsburg, reading the service of the Episcopal Church. The large funeral cortege and attendance of persons from Santa Rosa, Sonoma and other distant points in the county gave evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased lady had been held by those who knew her. The deep sorrow of her afflicted husband will be shared by his numerous friends throughout the State of California.
