Notes:

Jeanne Miller lists her name as Elizabeth in some of her documents.

She was also known as Mrs. C. R. Townsend.

She is believed, with the aid of her older sister Helen (both whom had repeatedly heard the story of the 1853 trip from their mother), to have typed up the copy of William Zilhart's 1853 ledger which now exists.

From a Gaye LeBaron article about the Hoag House, October 1978, Press Democrat:

Edith, a well-know elocutionist and speech teacher, married Robert Townsend, and lived in El Paso, Texas.
