Notes:

Listed as D. P. W. Ogan in the 1860 Census for Analy Township in Sonoma County, as a 28 year old school teacher born in Kentucky. His personal estate is worth $8000 (pretty rich for a shool teacher!). He is living in dwelling 189 with the Cornelius and Susan McGuire family. Two dwellings down at 187 is the John and Martha McReynolds, the family of his future wife. At dwelling 191 is the P. B. and Susan McGuire family -- it is not known at this time what the relation between these two McGuire families might be. Personal estate worth $8000 (pretty rich for a shool teacher!).

In the 1870 Census for Santa Rosa, he is listed as Ogan D. P. V., a 42 year old farmer born in Kentucky. in dwelling #183. His Real Estate is assesed at $20,000 and his personal estate as $4000. Also enumerated is Leh F., a 22 years old, born in Missouri, "Keeping House"; Lena C., a 3 year old female born in California; and Kitty V., a 9 year old born in "unk". The listing of Kitty as last indicates she had different parents.

Listed in Sonoma County Marriages 1847-1902 (Sonoma County Genealogical Society, Inc., Santa Rosa, CA: 1st Edition, March 1980) as D. P. W. OGAN in his marriage to Fannie L. MC REYNOLDS.

Listed as D. P. V. Ogan on the tombstone for his daughter Ada S. Ogan in Spring Hill Cemetery.

From Susan Zeni (email 1 June 2007):

Some newspaper mentions of the Ogans --
DPV Ogan and Francis Leah McReynolds (or Leah Francis, or Fanny Leah) had at least one more son -
"Feb. 16, 1871
Born near Santa Rosa, January 27, 1871, to D.P.V. OGAN & wife, a son.
February 1871Russian River Flag
Location: Healdsburg "

The widow did remarry,
"Marriages:
Santa Rosa, Apr. 23, 1873, John S. SIMONS to Mrs. F.L. OGAN."

And the new couple had a son who died,
"Born:
At Santa Rosa, Jan. 20, 1874, to the wife of J.S. SIMONS, son.
Died:
At Santa Rosa, Jan. 20, 1874, infant son of J.S. and L.F. SIMONS."

AND another son for which I have no further info --
"Born to the wives of:
J.S. SIMONS, Santa Rosa, Sept. 10, 1875, son."

I have attached the 1870 Ogan census. Looks like they had an older child who escaped Spring Hill, Kitty. No sign of an 1880 census record for John S Simons and LF McReynolds/Ogan/Simons.
