Martha is listed as a 3 year old (bp. MO) living with her mother Martha Gauldin in the 1850 Census for LaFayette County in Missouri.

According to Jeanne Miller, was on the 1853 Hagans-Cockrill train, fell in love with Zilhart as a 6 year old child, and then married him ten years later when she was 16 and he was 36.

Listed in Sonoma County Marriages 1847-1902 (Sonoma County Genealogical Society, Inc., Santa Rosa, CA: 1st Edition, March 1980), p. 44 (brides) as Martha A. Gauldin.
