Spring Hill Cemetery Work Days

11 October 2024

Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,

We had a big turnout for today's workday, the last one of 2024. Seven of our usual volunteers were joined by 4 members of Sonoma County Youth Career Pathways Program, led by Isiah. This was our first experience with the "Youth Crew," but I think they will be continuing participants for us in our future work sessions. The crew came with chainsaws, weed eaters and pole saws, providing us with both youthful muscle and the tools and knowledge to aid us in more complicated tasks.

The Youth Crew were very busy using weed eaters on the southern part of the cemetery in places that we had never yet completely cleared. Having this area cleared will not only knock down the weeds and ivy, but also leave the area in a state that is much easier for us to probe. Additionally, they used the pole saw to take down a dangerous overhanging tree branch.

While the Youth Crew were busy with the power tools, the rest of us set about getting the cemetery ready for winter. We were able to clear all of the paths, leaving the cemetery in its preferred serene state.

This was our last scheduled workday of the year. We plan to start back up in February, as usual. I will be sending out an email on the next workday sometime in December.

Wishing you all lovely holidays, and hope to see you in 2025!

Best Regards,

Sue
