28 July 1883 Sonoma Democrat Obituary (from Ray Owens)

From Susan Zeni (24Apr2009 email): I was contacted a couple of days ago by a Shuster researcher.  As mentioned in my last email, Ray Owen kindly sent me a newspaper clipping reporting on John Shuster's burial in Spring Hill in 1883.  Susan LeBlanc (the Shuster researcher) said that John Shuster was subsequently moved to Evergreen Cemetery in 1918.  As emailed by Susan, "[John Shuster was] re-interred at time of son James Elgin's death and burial, 14 Dec 1918. O'Leary Funeral Home records.  John Shuster must have been buried at Spring Hill and then moved to Evergreen when his son died in 1918."  There is a grave-sized depression in the Lowrey area of the cemetery - this could be where John Shuster was originally placed.  Sounds like John Shuster was a 35-year temporary resident of Spring Hill.  Thanks, Ray and Susan for the information!

The bottom reads (from October 18, 2007 examination):
She died in the Lord

Thou art gone to the grave, we no longer behold thee
Nor tread the rough paths of the world by your side
But the wide arms of mercy are spread to enfold thee

(last line is still in progress, but we THINK:)
And thy friends hope to greet thee, since the Saviour hath died.

From Susan Zeni (email 23 Sep 2005): I found an interesting bio on James M. Small - his wife and child are in Spring Hill. The bio is at: http://www.genealogymagazine.com/jamesmsmall.html.
