Spring Hill Cemetery Work Days

by Susan Zeni

26 August 2022

Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,

We had a lovely, foggy and cool workday yesterday. Eight of us gathered at the cemetery, and parks provided us with our usual dump truck and tool trailer.

This will be a brief summary, as I am time constrained. We spent yesterday preparing the cemetery for another canine forensic survey, which should take place sometime in October, if we get a rain. This involves clearing more of the cemetery floor in areas previously untouched, to give the dogs clearer access to the ground, and removing scent blockers such as dog poop. Additionally, we raked paths (picture 1) and explored the area around the latest footstone that was unearthed a couple of months back. Jeremy will take the footstone pieces home (picture 2) to repair, before we place it in the cemetery. We also tried to find the top of the Robertson stone (picture 3). The stone originally had a top piece connected by a metal rod - Patsy found what looks to be the metal rod, and we are gently excavating that to see if it leads to our piece -- to be continued!

Our last 2022 workday is scheduled for Friday, October 21st. Please mark your calendars and come join us if you can.

The cemetery looks lovely (picture 4). I want to thank all of you for helping in this effort to protect this very special place.

Best Regards,

Sue
