Spring Hill Cemetery Work Days

2 August 2013

Dear Friends of Spring Hill Cemetery,

Eight of us gathered a the cemetery today. I was uncertain of what to expect at the cemetery due to the recent downed tree. Happily, most of the damage had been removed - Davey's tree service had cut up the tree, and Regional Parks had already removed much of the remaining debris. Our work crew spent the morning cleaning up the rest of the tree debris, maintaining paths, and pulling invading acacia and ivy sprouts - all under beautiful sunny skies.

The tree had been a gigantic oak tree which stood on the eastern border of the cemetery between Mary A Roger's and Osmond Fairbanks headstones. I couldn't remember just which type of tree it had been, but luckily it was documented on our cemetery map. We were amazingly lucky that neither neighboring headstone was damaged in the fall. I have attached a few pictures of the tree (now stump) and its setting. The first is looking westward from the road, the second is looking eastward from the middle of the cemetery. As you can see from the pictures, the lack of this tree has opened up this part of the cemetery, letting in much more sun.

The cemetery is in very good shape. Our stones seem secure, and no new hazards were encountered. I have attached pictures of our crew gathering debris and loading up the dump truck. As usual, we left the cemetery looking very serene with its newly raked paths. The final picture is of today's work crew.

Please note: we have made a procedural change to the Spring Hill Cemetery fund. Please send any new donations to:
