(Tintype copied from Franklin Wright).(close up of original tintype)

From "Pattern of Timeless Moments," A History of Montgomery County, by Mable S. Lassiter (Troy, NC: 1995). p. 321 Confederate Troop Co. "G" -- 14th Regiment:
E.A. Wright -- Resided Mont. Co., until he enlisted Wake Co., at age of 37, Aug 27, 1863. Captured Spotsylvania Court House May 19, 1864; Confined Pt. Lookout until paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Sept. 18, 1864 for exchange; hospitalized at Richmond, Sept. 22, 1864; No further records.

There was also an old story that use to be told by the Wright family, and related to me by Winifred Wright, who had heard it upon occasion from his father, Henry: that during one of the great and horrible Civil War battles, where the Confederacy was losing many men, General Robert E. Lee became so distraught with grief that he charged his horse towards enemy lines and certain death. He was saved from suicide however, by an infantry man reaching up, grabbing the reigns of the horse, and haulting the General's dazed charge. That man was none other than E. A. Wright.

Civil War Service record copied by Michael Wright:
