Copy from Susan Zeni

Not enumerated with his parents in the 1850 Census for LaFayette County in Missouri.

Enumerated (as Robbert, a. 17, bp. VA) with his parents in the 1852 California Census for Sonoma County.

Robert is listed in 1860 Census living in Analy Township. Real Estate worth $800 and personal estate worth $800. A Thomas Inman, a 23 year old "Farm Laborer" born in New York is also listed living with the family.

He is also listed in Sonoma County Marriages 1847-1902 (Sonoma County Genealogical Society, Inc., Santa Rosa, CA: 1st Edition, March 1980), as Robert MC REYNOLDS to Mary MC ABEE on 28 Jul 1855, (no place recorded), officiated by J K Walker, and recorded in Marriages Book A Page 51.

From McReynolds Family Westward Bound by Glenva Conklin (copied for me by Susan Zeni) pp. 38:

From a descendent of Robert and Mary I have been told Robert was an outstanding man, well liked and very active in his community. Robert and Mary were married in Sonoma County. Census show they lived there 1860 - 1870. They moved to Livermore in Alameda County, California where he died Sept. 20, 1880 and is buried in the Pleasanton Cemetery. We have not been able to learn much about Robert's life. He left Missouri with a pet monkey, while crossing the plains his older brothers wanted to kill the monkey for food. This incident caused bad feelings between Robert and his brothers which lasted through their entire lives.

According to Valerie Longmire, the great great granddaughter of Robert McReynolds, Robert was buried in the Oak Knoll cemetery in Livermore, which is now a run-down pioneer memorial. His high cheekbones, said to identify of his Cherokee ancestry (because of his mother, Anna Christina Miller, who was believed to be half American Indian). Also from Valerie Longmire:

...Robert's niece Viola, was married to John Donner from the Donner party. His father was George Jr. survivor of the crossing.
