  ...the Harris Family crossed the Plains in Col. Hardin's wagon train. In 1853 Col. Hardin went west along the Oregon Trail with his parents and other members of the family. The Harris Family must have crossed at that time because they did not continue on through to California but went to Oregon where they settled for two years... The Hardin Party went on to Sonoma County, California. In 1855 the Harris Family went south to Sonoma County, CA., to be with the Hardin Family... Except for the two years in Oregon, and later seven years in Mendocino County, CA., Aunt Sally made her home in Sonoma County...
