Five brothers lived in Virginia. Three of them moved into Kentucky and settled. Their names were John, William and James. William McGuire was my father's father and your grandpa's grandfather. Your great great grandfather was William McGuire, your grandpa's grandfather.

My father was your great grandfather and your grandpa's father. My father was one of those brothers that moved into Kentucky in 1700.

William McGuire's wife was an Abbot. They had a large family, seven boys and five girls, all lived to be grown but one, who died in infancy. Their first child born was James. He was my father. He was born March 22nd, 1798.

He married my mother, and your grandpa's mother. Her name was Sara Willcoxen. They were married in 18[2]2 and their first child born in July 12, 1823 his name was Altemus. Their second son Preston Blair was born July 7, 1825. Cindarilla was born Feb. 19, 1830. I. N. was born Aug. 16, 1832. C. Elizabeth was born Oct. 5, 1837. Wm. Crayton was born July 3, 1839. Eliza was born Jan. 6, 1842. Ellenor was born June 20, 1845.

My father, your great grandfather, crossed the plains in '49 with six children, two of his sons were married and living in Iowa. They remained there until fifty two when they came to California with ox teams, the same as your great grand father and mother and your grandpa did. They settled in Santa Rosa valley and lived a good many years. They had seven children, six boys and one girl. Your grandpa Preston, married Susan Hickman, Altemus married Margeret Campbell. They had eleven children, 8 girls and 3 boys; six of the girls are living and two boys. The oldest boy was William McGuire. He married Sarah Rains.

They had four girls. The second boy was named Wade Hampton. He married Meta Fisk. The oldest girl was Eliza, she married Thomas Baller, himself and wife are both dead, but their five daughters live at Goleta and Santa Anna. The second daughter, Mary, married Dr. Fields and had one son. The next, Sarah married John Earhart - no children. The next girl Laura married Charles Palen and had four children, Julia never married but the next Hattie married Andrew Fields and have four children. The next one Georgia married a Goodrich and have three children. Aunt Margaret and Julia and Wade and Georgia live at Lampass.

[From Dr. Baker's version of the letter:
Next comes Cindarilla, she being one of the six that crossed the Plains in 49. Her first husband's name was James Moor. They had six children. Her second husband's name was N. C. Hashund. They had five children, 3 girls and 2 boys. None of the Moor children are living but several decendants. Five of the girls were married and four left children. ]

Bettie Shaber had 5 children, 2 boys and 3 girls. Eliza Barns left three. Mary Frances left four, 3 girls and a boy, her husband's name was Alfred Longly. Demelda Ann Ross left 2 girls and 2 boys. Her hasband's name was Orrin Ross. The other, Eugenie, married a Mr. Hoy - She died without children. She was the last of the Moor girls.

Now comes your grandpa, P. B. McGuire. His oldest boy was Williard P. Hall McGuire. He married a Nancy Prather. They had six children, three of whom are living, two daughters and one son - Florence, Nettie and Curtis (Florence McGuire Burnett; Nettie McGuire Owen).

The second son James Thomas married a Sarah McCray and had one child, a girl. Both James and wife are dead.

The next boy, John, married a Cockeral and had five children. The oldest son died after growing to manhood.

The next Albert married a Mary Prather, and has a son (the son Burleigh, died years ago and left a daughter). The next Henry, never married. The next a girl. Susie, married a Wm. Hedrick, and had two children, afterward married S. E. Edgar and have 2 children.

The next a son, Edward, married a Miss Ida McConnel, who died. They had one child which died in infancy. He next married a Mrs. McNamee, no children.

James McGuire, my father, was born in 17[9]8, and my mother was born 1804. Her maiden name was Wilcoxen. Her mother's name was Tatum. She would be my great grandmother and your great great great grandmother, and her mother's name was Stewart. They were born in 1700 and something. My mother's father's name was Squire Wilcoxen and his wife's maiden name was Tatum. They had a family of twelve children, 8 girls and 4 boys. Three boys grew to manhood. Their names were Jordon, James, and Samuel. Tatum died in infancy. The girls were named Betsy and Patsy, Taletha and Sarah and Amy and Anna. Ellenora was the youngest.

These girls were my mothers sisters and your great-great aunts. Betsy married an Allen, Patsy married Alumbaugh and Amy a Spencer, Samuel had a small family. Jordan never married and James had a family but how many they had in their families I never heard. Several of the sisters were married but I don't know to who nor anything about their families.
