An extract of a deed for Abner Watson as grantee found by Dorothy Hankins (email 26 Aug 2004) entered into theDeed Book for Rockingham Co, NC, on 1832 Dec 25 and in Book 2E, Page 185-186:

John A. Patrick of the State of NCarolina and County of Rockingham sells & confirms to Abner Watson of the State of Virginia and County of Prince Edward, for the sum of $4337.50, 890 acres of Land situate on the North side of Haw River, bounded by said river on the south, adjoining James Patrick Senr, Blake W Brasewell(?) on the West; James Sharp on the South West; the heirs of James Lemonds Junr on the South; the heirs of James Cunningham on the South; Alexander Bevel and Alexander Johns on the East; running down a branch of said Haw River to said River together with all woods, waters etc.

It's amazing to me that Abner paid over $4,000 for 890 acres of land in NC. That was a lot of money then. Do you think he knew John Patrick, or was it just coincidence that he found 890 acres? The Patrick's had inherited the land from the father, Hugh Patrick, who allegedly was a supporter of the Revolution - at least he gave money. Hugh Patrick's father supposedly received a Granville land grant in the early 1700's, at least that was what a researcher in Rockingham county told me.
