Pastor of the Good Hope Baptist Church. Last of his generation to farm the ancestral land of his great grandfather. Keeper of the family narrative. He embodied what the Wright family has been all about since its arrival to Arkansas in the 1860's.
I met Henry and Jessie during my first visit to Arkansas in 1997. Though we only talked for a short time, I was significantly impressed by their knowledge of the family. Henry, who was also blind, appeared to have a remarkable memory of the surrounding lands. Both of them had known several members of my branch of the family. Their stories were rich and detailed, and I wished that I had met them at least five years sooner. They passed away within thirteen days of one another.
